Ozzy Osbourne Says He’s a Sex Addict…

Originally posted on The Los Angeles Times Newspaper Website.  However, due to possible triggering items in that newspaper, it has not been linked.

Ozzy Osbourne is a sex addict, his rep said Wednesday, by way of explaining the crash of the rocker’s marriage to Sharon Osbourne in May after a four-year affair went public.

“Over the last six years, Ozzy Osbourne has been dealing with a sex addiction,” the rep told People. The performer is undergoing “intense therapy.”

Meanwhile, Michelle Pugh, the other half of that affair, had a different story to tell. They met, she said, in 2011 when she first did his hair, and he made the first move a year later.

“When I say he gave me the greatest love of my life, I mean it,” Pugh told the magazine exclusively. “He made me feel like the most beautiful and worshiped woman in the world.”

The relationship “felt like an old-fashioned romance. Being courted. I loved it,” she said. “He made it clear to me and asked me not to see anyone else. We had a very real relationship.”

Ozzy, however, told People through his rep that he was “sorry if Ms. Pugh took their sexual relationship out of context” and said he “would like to apologize to the other women he has been having sexual relationships with.”

Ouch.

Sharon Osbourne spoke about the situation on “The Talk” on Wednesday, revealing that when Ozzy gets back from touring with Black Sabbath, he’ll be going into inpatient treatment for three months.

“It’s hard because it affects the whole family, and it’s quite embarrassing to talk about,” she said, choking up. “Somehow drugs and drink is more acceptable, I think, but when it’s somebody who has a sex addiction, it’s embarrassing.”

However, always quick with a quip, she added, “I think he should call Tiger Woods for some advice.”

Sharon had been similarly vulnerable when she returned to “The Talk” after taking a day off during the uproar in May, saying she couldn’t “keep living like this.” In other words, it sounded as if the affair wasn’t a one-time deal.

Daughter Kelly Osbourne took shots at Pugh shortly after that, tweeting the hairstylist’s mobile number to the public along with a few choice comments slamming her.

Defending her dad against a Twitter critic who pointed out that Ozzy should be equally to blame in the situation, she said, “My father is almost 70 ever heard of elder abuse?” She continued to lash out against critics the next day, leading mom Sharon to compliment Kelly on her sense of humor during the next episode of “The Talk.”

“Oh, Kelly has the best sense of humor ever. And you know what? In cases like this, what can you do but laugh?” Sharon said to her cohosts. “You have to laugh. She is just so funny.”

Pugh, however, wasn’t laughing. She told People that she sent Kelly Osbourne a cease and desist letter in May, demanding that her number be taken down. She said she’s been followed to work by tabloid reporters.

Kelly and Sharon “have come out and attacked me, berated me, and publicly shamed me on a global scale,” she alleged. Now she’s suing for defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and public disclosure of private facts, according to court documents obtained by the magazine.

Kelly “went on a Twitter rampage,” Pugh said, “and she started getting responses the night that she tweeted my number out. Maybe four hours later, she started responding back to people. … I’m like, ‘elder abuse?’ We had a four-year relationship.”

That relationship hasn’t been enough to split the Osbournes. Sharon said in May that she’d kicked Ozzy out, but that he’d since moved back into their home and she’d moved out.

“The X Factor” judge told The Times in June that she was dealing with the drama in part by seeing a therapist regularly on her own and as a couple with Ozzy, and that he was doing therapy alone as well.

“I’m seeing what it’s like living on my own. … It’s very hard because we’re 34 years married, 36 years living as a couple, and I’ve known him for 40 years,” she said. “Of course, you miss that person.”

Sharon, 63, laid down the law about what she would need before she took back her 67-year-old husband.

“Respect. … I didn’t get that. It’s very hurtful when you don’t get that respect and consideration from your partner… Can I ever trust him again? I don’t know. I’m now questioning every statement, every move. … The lies and intrigue still hurt…

“Ideally, I would love for my husband to deal with his issues and work at the problems that he has now.  And be honest and open … to be able to come back to us with honesty and respect for the family. That’s what I really wish.”

In late July, she confirmed they were back together as a couple.

“I just can’t think of my life without him,” Sharon told her “The Talk” cohosts. “Even though he is a dog. He’s a dirty dog. So there we are. He’s going to pay big.”

Psalm 51

Originally posted at: http://purehope.net/psalm-51/

51

This summer on facebook, our interns took you through Psalm 51.  One of ours and the interns’ and favorite things to do is 51//58 prayer.  Praying through Psalm 51 for personal repentance and the pursuit of purity, followed by praying through Isaiah 58 for church revival and the pursuit of justice.  We finished today, so here is the full compilation of those posts for your devotional delight…

Psalm 51:1-2
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet went to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!

David cries out to God for forgiveness after he committed adultery with Bathsheba (see 2 Samuel 11) with a desperation for healing and sanctification that we should all desire.

Psalm 51:3-4
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

We can’t properly turn to God in repentance until we acknowledge our sin. Jesus Himself said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” As long as we think we are “okay”, we will walk as if we have no need of Him.

Psalm 51:5-7
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.  Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.  Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. (Bonus: Our staff is loving this band, Rivers & Robots check out their song White As Snow)

Notice what David does not say: “Hold on, God, while I try and clean myself.” He understands that cleansing is the work of God. May we come before Him in humble repentance and ask Him to do what only He can do.

Psalm 51:8-10
Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice.  Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.  Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

It is an interior issue! David gets it. Jesus called the Pharisees out in Matthew 23 for being like whitewashed tombs, clean on the outside but dirty on the inside. David petitions, “Renew me from the inside out.” Lord, create a clean heart in all of us.

Psalm 51:11-13
Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.

Though this Psalm is written in repentance from a sexual sin, David doesn’t mention sexual sin once. His prayer is for the joy of the Lord. Why? Because David understands the heart of the issue: that he’s not seeking to be satisfied in God. And what is the natural flow of having the joy of the Lord in you? You’ll want to tell others about Him and serve Him. Faithful living always begins with being satisfied in Him.

Psalm 51:14-15
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

David prays for deliverance because in his sin, his worship of God is hindered. Where is our heart in repentance? Our prayers for freedom should ultimately be so that we can enjoy Him more. And in freedom we will enjoy Him more.

Psalm 51:16-17
For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

He doesn’t just want our lip service or our good deeds- He wants our heart. Cry out to the Lord, come before him with a humble and broken heart. His word promises he will not reject that. He will receive you. And He will bring forgiveness and freedom.

Psalm 51:18-19
Do good to Zion in Your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem; then will You delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on Your altar.

David is acknowledging that because of his leadership, his sin has a communal effect. His repentance and earnest pursuit of the Most High, then, can also have a profound impact on his kingdom. David’s prayer begins with himself and ends with a longing for the good of his people.

Jesus, we pray akin to David’s prayer: Cleanse us individually, build us up together. You are our Cornerstone! May our worship be a fragrant offering.

Emotional Adultery

High school chemistry taught me a very valuable lesson: When certain substances come into close contact, they can form a chemical reaction. I proved that one day during my senior year of high school when I dropped a jar full of pure sodium off a bridge into a river and nearly blew up the bridge! What I’ve learned since then is that many people don’t respect the laws of chemistry any more than I did as a teenager. They mix volatile ingredients without giving much thought to the consequences. I’ve discovered that many married people don’t understand that a chemical reaction can occur with someone other than their spouse. Don’t misunderstand me—I’m not just talking about sexual attraction. I’m referring to a reaction of two hearts, the chemistry of two souls. This is emotional adultery—an intimacy with the opposite sex outside of marriage. Emotional adultery is unfaithfulness of the heart. When two people begin talking of intimate struggles, doubts, or feelings, they may be sharing their souls in a way that God intended exclusively for the marriage relationship. Emotional adultery is friendship with the opposite sex that has progressed too far. I’ve talked with many men and women who have fallen into full-fledged adultery, and I’ve discovered that, in most cases, the adulterous relationships started as a casual relationship at work, school, or even church.

You may be converging on a chemical reaction with another person when:

• You’ve got a need you feel your mate isn’t meeting—a need for attention, approval, or affection.
• You find it easier to unwind with someone other than your spouse by dissecting the day’s difficulties over lunch, coffee, a ride home, or through email or social media.
• You begin to talk about problems you’re having with your spouse.
• You rationalize the “rightness” of this relationship by saying that surely it must be God’s will to talk openly and honestly with a fellow Christian.
• You look forward to being with this person.
• You wonder what you’d do if you didn’t have this friend to talk with.
• You hide the relationship from your spouse.
