Set Free Summit – April 4 – 7, 2016 – Greensboro, NC

Set Free Conference

About the Set Free Summit

Pornography is pervasive in our culture—in TV shows and movies, on your neighbor’s magazine cover on the airplane, and especially on the Internet. Even Christian men and women can get caught up in this addictive behavior, and yet most church leaders don’t have a clue about how to broach the subject at all, let alone break free.

On April 4-7, 2016, Josh McDowell Ministry and Covenant Eyes are hosting the Set Free Summit, a global summit to equip church leaders with the facts and emotional realities of porn’s impact on families, the church, and culture at large. This event, held in Greensboro, NC, will feature the presentation of a brand new study by the Barna Group, as well as three full days of information presented by Christian leaders from across the country.

Fast Facts About the Event

  • April 4-7, 2016
  • 1,000 tickets available

  • Nearly 30 speakers scheduled to give 23 talks

Sex Addiction Research – PARTICIPANTS WANTED

An attendee of Castimonia meetings since 2011 is conducting a study of the effects of deviant sexuality on the brain.  He works as a technician at Unique MindCare, a neurofeedback clinic, where he runs an EEG (electroencephalogram) software program which reads electrical brain activity for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment of physical causes in the brain for behavioral symptoms.

They are looking for a minimum of 30 individuals involved in Castimonia who would like to voluntarily participate in a sex addiction study.  Participant involvement is completely voluntary and confidential.

The study aims at examining differences in electrical activity in the brain common within this group’s population compared to other men who do not have these struggles. They expect to find irregularities in areas of the brain known to deal with impulsive behavior, pain and pleasure, fear responses and potentially other areas as well.

This could be used as a way to put a 12th step into action as this research could possibly lead to better understanding the physical reasons to why we struggle as we do and, therefore, later lead to future treatments designed to help relieve symptoms and/or possibly decrease recovery time.  Each participant will also receive a personalized quantitative EEG or “Brain Map”.  A brain map will show you where in your brain there is too much or too little brain activity compared to others your age and can identify strengths or abnormalities that can explain certain, consistent issues. This is a valuable resource which is usually charged at $1,400.00 but will be free of charge in exchange for the participants’ aid to their research.

Average age of first exposure is 11 Years. 12-17 year olds are the largest porn consumers. Teens see 50 porn clips per week. 1 out of 3 youth who viewed pornography, viewed the pornography intentionally. Porn sites get more visitors each month than Netflix, Amazon and Twitter combined. 70% of boys and 62% of girls are exposed to Internet porn before the age of 18.

Some parents are in denial about it while others are terrified by it, but the truth is, our kids are facing an unprecedented tidal wave of pornography. Statistically speaking, four out of five 16-year-olds regularly access pornography online, and first-time exposure most often occurs in the preteen years. And yes, girls are looking too.  Research continues to confirm the devastating effects of modern-day pornography as witnessed by professionals such school teachers, family counselors, brain specialists, and law enforcement agents, to name a few.

But here’s the good news, parents. We don’t have to sit by while our kids drown in this epidemic. Join us on October 18 for a community wide event, sponsored by West Houston area churches and local ministries. Learn strategies to inspire your kids to avoid pornography and equip them with the tools to resist looking. Whether your child is in the cradle or in college, you’ll benefit from this.

This event is open to all parents who want a plan on how to proactively address this issue within their own families.

October 18, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Chapelwood United Methodist Church, Sanctuary
11140 Greenbay, Houston, TX 77024
