New Castimonia Meeting in San Antonio – Starting January 15th

I am humbled to announce that we will officially be starting a new Castimonia meeting on Thursday nights at The Fellowship of San Antonio on January 15th.  This is exactly how God’s ministry should grow.  A member that attended at the Katy, TX meeting was brave enough to take it to his location answering, “Lord send me!”  I am very grateful for this man’s bravery and for his faithfulness to the Lord.

End of the Rope

The Beatitudes are the foundation of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. I love Eugene Peterson’s interpretation. He paraphrases Matthew 5:3. “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope.”

I’ve been there. We’ve all been there – at the end of our rope. 

That is usually what drives us into recovery. We go flying over the cliff, only to hang on for dear life – at the end of the rope. If you’ve experienced the trauma of a spouse’s betrayal, you find yourself at the end of your rope.

You have nothing else to do but hang on. But here’s the good news. Jesus said we are “blessed” to be there. At the end of the rope, we find a sense of desperation. It is when we can barely hold on that we need Someone to catch us.

Recovery Step: Embrace the blessing of being at the end of your rope.

Religious Festivals

Amos 5:21 “I hate, I despise your religious festivals.”

Steven Stoffelsen, founder of House of Refuge Street Ministries, writes, “God doesn’t want us to only know about him. He doesn’t want us to think of him as a cruel ruler that we can only come to if we have been really, really good. Rather, the privilege of getting to know him is ours. Consequently, as we get to know him, the more we will understand his goodness. And the more we understand his goodness, the more we will fall in love with him.”

Since the days of Amos, we have often fallen into the trap of worshiping the form instead of the substance. We make a god of the ritual, or religious festival.

Religious activities are not the end; they are the means to the end. Keep your eyes on Jesus, not the ritual.

Recovery Step: Hold no idols. Not even recovery. Set your eyes on the God of the ritual, not on the ritual of the God.
