During a downtime, a dear friend gave me some really good counsel. He said, “It’s okay to not be okay.”
Sorrow has gripped the hearts of some pretty impressive men.
- When his friend died, “Jesus wept” (John 11:35).
- King Solomon said, “Sorrow is better than laughter” (Ecclesiastes 7:3).
- After the wife of C.S. Lewis died, he wrote, “Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything.”
Sorrow is an inevitable part of life. Don’t deny it, run from it, or quickly dismiss it. Learn from it. Grow from it. Don’t become bitter; become better.
Recovery Step: When sorrow visits (and it will), keep your eye on Jesus, keep moving forward, and never give up.
