When you feel triggered and don’t know why

There are moments in recovery when a reaction seems to come out of nowhere. Something small happens, but your response feels bigger than expected, and you’re left wondering why.

Most of the time, that reaction isn’t random. It’s your body responding to something familiar, even if your mind hasn’t caught up yet.

Instead of judging yourself, try getting curious. Ask yourself what felt uncomfortable, what it reminded you of, and what you might need in that moment. That kind of awareness begins to create space between the trigger and the reaction.

This week, notice one moment like that and pause before responding. That pause matters more than you think.

We’re walking this with you.
