Presumptions

A new CEO demanded hard work from his employees. One day, he saw a guy standing by the food table, doing nothing. He yelled, “You’re fired! Get out of here!”

Then he turned to one of the other men and said, “Smith, see what happens to slackers? Tell me, in your own words, what just happened!”

Smith: “Well, sir, you just fired the pizza delivery guy.”

Moses spoke of a day when “all the people shall not act presumptuously again” (Deuteronomy 17:13).

Presumption gets us into trouble every time. Now apply that to recovery. Let me say it with five words.

Don’t judge another man’s recovery.

Every other person in recovery has experienced different (a) trauma, (b) abuse, (c) isolation, (d) circumstances, and (e) triggers from you.

The answer: When you see someone else struggling, don’t presume. Pray.

Recovery Step: Put presumptions of other people on the top shelf, then throw away your ladder.
